Jade Monkey Tears

At the closing ceremony, one of the homeroom classes performed this song - a revised version of "Red River Valley" as arranged by their homeroom teacher, Elana Hohl (her name is pronounced "ee-lan-ah" rhymes with banana. Teachers and students alike had a hard time keeping our names straight!). Anyway, when they sang this song on stage, I cried...

Wuhan University

From the heat of thie city you're going.
We will miss your bright eyes and sweet smiles.
For they say you are taking the English
That brightened our hallways awhile.

CHORUS:
We hope you'll forgive the humidity.
Do not hasten to bid us adieu.
But remember the Wuhan University
And the students who listened to you.

We've been thinking a long time, our teachers,
Of the great words you've taught us to say
We sure hope that our English won't vanish
For, alas, you are going away.

CHORUS

Will you think of the students you're leavin'?
Oh, how lonely and sad it will seem.
Will you think of the topics you've taught us?
And the English you've caused us to dream?

CHORUS

We had promised you, teachers, that never
Would Chinese from our lips cause you pain
And that we would remember you forever
Everytime we are caught in the rain.

CHORUS
